About the Team

Competitions

We compete in the 2nd Division of the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) Cup, a division introduced in 2018/19 to showcase the depth of medical school rugby across the country. The group stage sees us face Warwick and Cardiff, before progressing into national knock-out rounds after Christmas. Just like the 1XV competition, the season builds towards NAMS Finals Day, where the 2XV Cup is contested alongside the other major trophies.

UBHRFC first entered the competition in 2022/23, and our rise since then has been rapid. We reached the final in only our second season, before going one step further to become national champions the following year in 2024/25.

The 2XV also play regular friendly fixtures throughout the year against local university sides. These games ensure consistent rugby for all players, while providing the perfect platform for developing talent. Many of our 1XV regulars first started in the 2XV, making the side a great stepping stone for those looking to progress to the highest level of medical school rugby.

Training and fixtures

Both our 1XV and 2XV train together with all three of our men's coaches, twice a week on Tuesday and Friday evenings. We host home fixtures on Saturdays on the 3G pitch at the university sports ground, Coombe Dingle Sports Complex.
