History of the Club
United Bristol Hospitals RFC was founded in 1946 and is predominantly comprised of Medical, Veterinary and Dentistry students from the University of Bristol, as well as local doctors. In recent years we have experienced a surge in interest from players outside the health sciences and are proud to have an increasing representation from the wider student body.
Since 2017/18, the club has been its most successful in its long history. With three National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) Plate victories in five years, followed by being crowned national champions in the 1st XV NAMS Cup in 2023/24 and the 2nd XV NAMS Cup in 2024/25. The UBH has gone from strength to strength in recent years and proven itself as one of the most competitive medics rugby clubs in the country. Both teams play home fixtures at the University of Bristol sports grounds at Coombe Dingle in the NAMS competition alongside a number of regular friendlies against other medical schools, university teams, and local rugby clubs.

Where does the money go?
-
UBHRFC is independently managed and receives no funding from the University of Bristol and is therefore entirely dependent on sponsorship and membership support, without which it couldn’t function at its current level.
-
Professional coaching: we currently employ four coaches – head coach, forwards coach, backs coach and skills coach.
-
Vital Physio
-
A significant portion of our budget is spent on fundamental costs such as hiring pitches and paying referees for our fixtures
-
Basic rugby equipment: balls, post protectors, cones, water bottles etc.
-
Sending our management team to training days and conferences to enable them to expand their knowledge and ensure our club is run in the best and most efficient way possible
-
Transport to away NAMS fixtures
