UBHRFC is Bristol University's Medics, Dentists and Vets team established in 1946. We currently have 2 men's teams and 1 women's team competing in the National Association of Medical Schools Cup. Our 1st XV won the Medical Schools Cup in the 2023-24 season and the 2nd XV came runners up in the final, additionally the women's team won their respective cup in 2023. We hope to build on all these successes in the 2024-25 season and can’t wait to welcome the new clubmen and clubwomen joining us in September.
We provide an alternative to the traditional paths of playing rugby at university, offering a strong level of rugby, with a real emphasis on club culture making sure we take extra care to look after our members. Despite the majority of club members being medical students, we are open to anyone, no matter the course you study. Inclusivity and openness of our club is something we take real pride in.
Summary of what we do
We train twice a week with the help of our head coach - Mike Armiger and assistant coach - Ryley Murtagh, and play most of our matches in the 1s and 2s men's teams on Saturdays. These are both competitive NAMS fixtures against rival medical schools and friendlies against other nearby university teams. We also have regular Saturday socials at the Sportsmans Pub in Bristol City Centre.
The training and matches are a great way to break up the monotony of university life, keep fit and make friends for life.
To find out more information about the women's team specifically please look at their individual page under the teams subsection on this website.
